ABOUT

BLOG

Ruach 2016 describes my study abroad experience in Madrid and travels across Europe from January to May 2016. While abroad, I seek to find spirit … spirit in students, businesses, and Jewish community across Europe. This Blog serves as a destination for the intersection of these various aspects that will be identified through my learning both inside and outside the classroom. Whether it be learning other students’ stories, meeting social entrepreneurs, or immersing myself at a different Shabbat dinner Friday evenings, this Blog will embody it all. Here I will share the Ruach (Hebrew word for ‘spirit') I encounter across Europe.

ME

Hannah Schlacter is a Petullo Scholar in the Business Honors Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying marketing and management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. Within her first two years on campus, she founded the first green business organization, ActGreen, helping students connect business and sustainability through projects and programs, as well as the student group Lean In UIUC, empowering students to pursue their ambitions and reach their potential. Currently, she sits on the Hillel International Board of Directors and is the co-founder of the Hillel International Student Cabinet, the student stakeholder group representing all facets of the modern global Jewish student identity. Hannah also serves on the Alpha Epsilon Phi National Collegiate Advisory Committee. As a Lean In Global Campus Coach, Hannah facilitated her sorority becoming the first to partner with the organization Lean In to empower sisters nationally, and she has lobbied Congress with the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition on legislation to increase college affordability and housing safety. In addition, Hannah has led her campus’s political advocacy group, IlliniPAC, and she blogs for the Times of Israel, in which her writing has been shared by her U.S. Congressman, State Comptroller, and Jewish United Fund. Hannah seeks a career path that will allow her to create a global positive impact aligning to her passions of environmentalism, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.

But these are just titles. Join me in finding Ruach across Europe to learn who I really am.
